Terblanchehoek Game Farm (Pty) Ltd (group of cos) owns 4,678 hectares of the total of the 12,000 hectare Philip Herd Nature Reserve. The reserve is made up of land across a number of privately owned farms that have collectively dropped their fences in order to reinstate the PHNR of the past. There is no government owned land in the PHNR.

There are 15 shares held between 11 individual shareholders - 1 of 15 shares is now for sale as the owner is based offshore and can no longer spend time visiting the reserve and enjoying what it has to offer.

The reserve falls within Critical Biodiversity Areas 1 and 2 and contributes towards the 518.2km2 (19%) conservation target for “Limpopo Ridge Bushveld” ecosystem prescribed in the National Protected Areas

Typical of Limpopo Ridge Bushveld, the landscape is dominated by undulating, wooded hills, which pitch and roll gently in all directions to the horizon. Characteristic are the craggy ridges and dry riverbeds lined with tall stands of Mopane (Colophospermum mopane) and studded with the iconic Baobab all of which create a scenic backdrop to a
rich variety of wildlife, including Giraffe, Burchell’s zebra, Blue wildebeest, Kudu, Impala, Waterbuck, Eland, Gemsbok and other antelope species, including the endemic Nyala, as well as naturally occurring predators, such as leopard, wild dog, hyena and jackal. Birders can tick off 250 species, including the magnificent fish eagle, and such rarities as the crested guineafowl.

There are currently 7 private camps on the Reserve. One of these is a joint (5 leaseholders) exclusive use lease in a Private Camp called SHONGOLOLO CAMP.

Shongololo Camp has four double en-suite units and a main camp kitchen, dining and boma area with a splash pool, situated on the banks of a tributary of the Limpopo, the Nzhelele River. Use of this camp is based on an annual booking roster. Shareholders cooperate and collaborate well on the reserve with regards to rosters and accommodating each other as much as possible.

All shareholders also have access to the MALUBI CAMP. This is a communal camp available to all shareholders to lease based on an annual booking roster. It is also used mainly by the hunting concession outfitter when they bring hunting groups in as part of the greater flora & fauna management plan for the reserve. That said, shareholders are welcome and encouraged to use Malubi for overflow visitors to the reserve.

Being located on the Limpopo River and Nzhelele River ensures that there is naturally occurring water on the game farm. In addition, water is pumped from the subterranean wells under the Limpopo River into the farm and an extensive solar-gravity fed water reticulation system program has just been completed for this purpose.

There is also Eskom power available on the farm and shareholders are actively installing solar power where possible so that we can move to a more self-sufficient position. This is ongoing.

Monthly levies are currently $250.00 per month for the private lease of Shongololo Camp plus an additional $500.00 per month (invoiced quarterly) for the reserve use rights at Malubi Camp and reserve general levies.

Rules and Regulations are determined by the Reserve Biological Management Committee bound by the Protected Areas Act Hunting is outsourced to a third party contractor that is given an annual quota for organised and controlled hunting. Owners can hunt within reason and with a Professional Hunter, according to the hunting policy that applies to the PHNR from the annual quota at the wholesale prices set annually.
